Slack integration

When you add the Codatum Slack app to a Slack workspace, you can send workflow results to Slack and ask the AI agent to work from Slack. You can connect multiple Slack workspaces to one Codatum workspace.

Key features

FeatureDescription
Workflow notificationsA Slack step sends messages and files to the channel you specify.
Using the AI agent from SlackAsk the AI agent by sending the app a DM or mentioning it in a channel. For details, see Slack integration for the AI agent.
Posting from the AI agentThe AI agent and routines post messages and files to Slack. For details, see Connectors managed in Slack integration.

Answers from the AI agent might contain mistakes. Check them before you rely on them for important decisions.

The agent view, where you open the Codatum app from Slack's top bar or side panel, is available only on paid Slack plans.

If you have questions about Slack integration, contact Codatum support at contact@codatum.com.

Connecting a Slack workspace

To use the Slack app, you need a Codatum account and workspace. If you don't have them yet, sign up at app.codatum.com/signup and create a workspace.

To connect, re-authenticate, or disconnect, you need the Workspace Owner role. You also need a Slack account that can add apps to the Slack workspace you connect.

  1. Open Global navigation > Workspace settings > External integrations > Slack integration.
  2. Select Connect Slack. If a Slack workspace is already connected, select Add Slack workspace.
  3. In Slack, check the Slack workspace to add the app to, and allow access.

When the connection is complete, you return to the Slack integration screen, and the Slack workspace's name and Connected are shown.

To use the AI agent from Slack, continue with Enabling agent requests from Slack.

You can also open the same settings screen from Slack integration settings when adding a workflow step.

Re-authenticating

Use Re-authenticate when notifications fail or you need to refresh Slack permissions. This keeps the existing connection, so workflow and routine destinations keep working. If you Disconnect and connect the same Slack workspace again, you don't need to reselect those destinations.

  1. Open Global navigation > Workspace settings > External integrations > Slack integration.
  2. On the connection, select Re-authenticate and allow access in Slack.

If a connection shows Update permissions, some operations are missing the permissions they need. Select Update permissions to re-authenticate.

Disconnecting

  1. Open Global navigation > Workspace settings > External integrations > Slack integration.
  2. On the connection, select Disconnect, and then select Disconnect in the confirmation dialog.

After you disconnect, existing Slack threads for that Codatum workspace stop working. The Slack app stays installed in the Slack workspace. To remove the app, uninstall it in Slack.

If you uninstall the app in Slack, the Slack workspace's connection no longer appears on the Slack integration screen. Workflow notifications, using the AI agent from Slack, and the connector managed in Slack integration stop working. Each user's account link is also removed.

To use it again, connect the Slack workspace again by following Connecting a Slack workspace. Workflow destinations, the setting that allows the agent to start from Slack, and the connector's permissions in AI profiles carry over. Each user needs to link their account again.

Specification

Posting to channels

ItemDescription
Public channelsThe app joins the channel automatically the first time it posts there. Slack records the app joining in its audit log.
Private channelsInvite the app first by running /invite @Codatum in Slack. Private channels the app hasn't been invited to don't appear in the destination list.

Messages the app reads

The app reads only the messages it uses for requests to the AI agent.

SourceDescription
DMsMessages in DMs with the app.
ChannelsMessages that mention the app, and the conversation in that thread. The app doesn't read private channels it hasn't joined.

To answer a request, the app sends what it reads to the AI model configured in the AI profile. For how long data from the Slack app is kept and how to request access or deletion, see the Privacy Policy.
