Domains Optional feature
In Domains under organization settings, you can claim a domain you own and verify it with a DNS TXT record. Only an organization owner can make these changes. Only one organization can have a verified domain.
TIP
This is an optional feature. Depending on your contract, it might not be available.
Domain verification
You can prove that the organization owns a domain by adding a DNS TXT record. Verification applies only to the domain you enter. It doesn't include subdomains.
This setting is separate from allowed domains in a workspace. Verifying a domain doesn't change how people join a workspace or how they sign in.
Adding and verifying
The following prerequisites apply.
- Only an organization owner can make these changes.
- You need to be able to add a TXT record to DNS.
- The Domains menu is shown when this feature is available.
- Open the workspace icon at the top of the global nav > Organization settings > Domains.
- Enter the domain you own in Domain, then select Add domain.
- Use Copy to clipboard to copy Host and TXT value from the list, then add them as a DNS TXT record.
- After DNS has propagated, select Verify.
If verification succeeds, the status becomes Verified. If the TXT record isn't found, wait for DNS to propagate, then select Verify again.
Keep the TXT record on the displayed Host after verification.
You can also select Verify when the status is Verified. This checks the TXT record again and shows the result in a message. The status stays Verified even if Codatum can't confirm the record.
Revoking and deleting
The action in the list depends on the status.
- Open the workspace icon at the top of the global nav > Organization settings > Domains.
- For the domain, select one of the following:
- Delete if the status is Pending
- Revoke if the status is Verified
- In the confirmation dialog, select Delete claim or Revoke verification.
Delete deletes a pending claim. Revoke lets another organization verify the domain. After you revoke it, you can add the same domain again from this organization.

Constraints
- Verification succeeds when a TXT record on the displayed Host exactly matches the TXT value. Other TXT records can exist on the same host.
- Verifying
example.comdoesn't include subdomains such aswww.example.com. Add each subdomain separately. - Only one organization can have a verified domain. Your organization can't make a domain Verified if another organization has already verified it.
- You can't add the same domain twice in the same organization.
- Free email domains can't be added.
- Names that are a public suffix themselves, such as
com,co.jp, orgithub.io, can't be added. You can add names such asexample.comandfoo.github.io. - You can't add a URL or email address. Enter the domain name only.
- Internationalized domain names are converted to Punycode (ASCII).
- Keep the TXT record on the displayed Host after verification.
- A pending claim remains until you select Delete. While another organization has verified the domain, selecting Verify returns an error. Delete the claim if you no longer need it. After the other organization revokes the domain, you can verify the same claim.
- After the feature becomes unavailable under your contract, you can still open the list from the menu if domains already exist. Verify and Delete / Revoke remain available. You can't use Add domain to add a new domain.
When the TXT record isn't found
- Confirm that Host and TXT value in the list exactly match what you registered in DNS.
- Confirm that you put the TXT record on the displayed Host, not on the domain itself.
- Wait for DNS to propagate, then select Verify again.
- If a message says that DNS couldn't be looked up, wait a while, then select Verify again.
If another organization has already verified the domain, contact Codatum support.
